Snack bags are commonly made from a composite of plastic and aluminium foil, materials that are difficult to separate and therefore cannot currently be recycled. As a result, they are typically sent to landfill. In response to this, we sought to encourage the public to rethink the potential of everyday waste through a simple, hands-on activity — giving chip bags a "second life".
We were delighted to partner with Whampoa Garden to organise the "Upcycled Chip Bag Workshop", inviting residents of the estate to take part. Under the guidance of our instructor, participants transformed used chip bags into practical, eco-friendly pouches, experiencing first-hand the meaning of upcycling. The process was simple and easy to follow, allowing participants of all ages, genders, and skill levels to take part with ease.
The event was met with an enthusiastic response, with residents actively engaging in the activity. Through hands-on participation, they deepened their understanding of waste reduction and resource circulation, while putting environmental awareness into practice in daily life.
We would like to thank Whampoa Garden for its continued support of environmental initiatives, as well as all residents who took part with such enthusiasm. Looking ahead, we will continue to organise community education activities, working together to promote a culture of waste reduction and contribute to a more sustainable future.
