On 17 September 2026, New Life Cycle was invited by the Sustainability Committee and Facilities Management Office of the City University of Hong Kong to take part in "Green Living @ CityUHK 2026," co-organised by both units. This year's theme was "Cool the Earth.Grow the Worth."
We set up a pop-up Second-Hand Clothing Exchange Bazaar, where students could bring along clothes they no longer wear and exchange them for "new-to-them" pieces from others. In an age of fast fashion, where clothes are bought and discarded faster than ever, swapping and reusing second-hand clothing tackles waste at the source, extends the lifespan of garments, and cuts down on the carbon emissions and resources involved in producing new clothes — a simple but meaningful step towards low-carbon living.
On the day, about 40 pieces of clothing were donated, and over 110 items found new owners among students — giving pre-loved clothes a second life and keeping them out of landfill. Turnout and energy at the booth were fantastic!
It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic and supportive students were of the initiative. A big thank you to the Sustainability Committee and Facilities Management Office for the invitation, and to every student who came by to swap clothes and put sustainability into practice!
We look forward to continuing our collaboration with CityU on future campus sustainability projects, and welcome other schools and organisations interested in hosting a similar event to get in touch.
